Dr. Kau Chung Yuan (许医生)
Orthopaedic Surgery is a special blend of science and art. There is much joy in operating, but great satisfaction comes from seeing so many patients recover well after surgery. It’s a privileged role, to be able to play a part and touch someone’s life. Finding a solution which best fits the individual, it’s this which has kept me challenged and going all this time.
Dr. Kau (许医生) is a Fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Hip and Knee surgery. He is experienced in trauma and fracture management, sports injuries, and joint replacement surgery.
Previously working as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Consultant within a strong department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital,Dr. Kau (许医生) has treated a high volume of complex cases, and is experienced in many conditions, including trauma and general Orthopaedics. He is versatile and skilled in fracture care, sports injuries and ligament reconstruction surgery.

Subspecialty Interests
Dr. Kau (许医生) is a keen adopter of technology and is proficient in the use of Robotics (MAKOplasty) and Computer Navigation for both hip and knee replacements.
He believes in enhanced recovery after surgery, and uses minimally-invasive surgical techniques to help his patients recover faster. He is trained in the Direct Anterior Approach to the hip which can benefit early recovery in his patients after total hip replacement.
- Dr. Kau (许医生) was awarded the prestigious Ministry of Health, Human Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship for further subspecialty training in 2015.
- He went on to complete his Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction Surgery (Hip and Knee) in Southampton University Hospital, United Kingdom.
His mentors include well renowned British surgeons Professor David Barrett and Professor Douglas Dunlop. His subspecialty interests include unicompartmental, as well as total and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
He is well versed in the Oxford Partial Knee Arthroplasty (PKA) system, and is an ASEAN instructor on the Oxford PKA to help train aspiring orthopaedic surgeons. He has presented as an invited speaker at international forums, and is an instructor for arthroplasty at local and regional conferences. Dr. Kau (许医生) continues to innovate and has close collaboration with the Orthopaedic industry to bring in new technologies to Singapore.
